Mission
As a Public Investigation Center, our mission accomplish the creation, advancement and dissemination of knowledge in order to contribute to the development of our country and that of humanity. Identifying and solving scientific and technological problems is also our goal, in an effort to shape specialists within Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computer Sciences.
Vision
The INAOE is a Public Investigation Center with high leadership (international level) in the field of scientific investigations. Our goal is to impulse technological and human resource development in the fields of Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computer Sciences. We are also committed to national growth through the promotion of social values like: solidarity, creativity and competitiveness.
INAOE HISTORY
Located in Tonantzintla, Puebla, the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) was founded on November 11, 1971.
INAOE is part of a long standing scientific tradition which dates back to 1942, when Luis Enrique Erro founded the National Astrophysics Observatory of Tonantzintla. It is one of the leading research centers in Mexico, part of the network of national research labs of CONACYT.
INAOE does scientific research, technological development, graduate courses and popularization of science in four main areas: astrophysics, optics, electronics and computer science.
HOW TO GET THERE BY BUS
Traveling to Puebla from Mexico City is fairly straightforward via bus. There are continual bus services between Mexico City and Puebla throughout the day and night both from the TAPO terminal (also known as Terminal Oriente, located beside the San Lázaro Metro station) and from Benito Juarez International Airport. Occasional buses go to/from the other terminals in Mexico City – e.g. ADO run a service from the Terminal del Norte several times a day.
Buses are also available from many other cities and towns, including Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las Casas, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Cuernavaca, Xalapa, Veracruz, Zacatlán, Cuetzalan, Tlaxcala, Tehuacán, Huamntla, and Juchitan among others, including less frequent services to destinations such as Cancún, Mérida, Puerto Escondido, and Acapulco.

Alternatively, Hermanos Serdán International Airport (PBC) is an international airport located near Puebla with direct flights from Houston (United), Dallas (American), Panama City (Copa), and several cities within Mexico.
